The recently held Battle of the Beasts boxing event at Bukom Boxing Arena has sparked a wave of reactions after a boxer was spotted wearing shorts bearing the sticker of popular preacher Stephen Adom Kyei Duah and ended up losing by knockout.

Joseph Sackey, clad in blue shorts adorned with the pastor’s image, suffered a fifth-round defeat to Abdul Khan on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in front of a packed arena.

While the arena buzzed with excitement, reactions quickly turned to the sticker on Sackey’s attire.

Scores of netizens speculated that the boxer was rather relying on spiritual protection instead of rigorous training.

“This is about more training, getting better and getting ready for the fight, not praying to God or just stickers,” one user wrote.

“No be say he lost the fight ooo, there was no fight. Ebi beating soorrn,” another stated.

Others, however, called on athletes to prioritize preparation over spiritual shortcuts.

The event was organised by Legacy Rise Sport, led by Sharaf Mahama, in collaboration with former world champion Amir Khan.
