There was a lighthearted moment at Bawaleshie Park on Monday, June 23, 2025, when former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah reminded everyone that rules are rules, even for old teammates.
The Monday Stars, a well-known informal gathering of retired and active Ghanaian footballers, attracts big names like Mubarak Wakaso, Jordan Ayew, and Appiah himself, who lace up to keep fit and stay connected to the game.
At the latest meet-up, former Black Stars winger Haminu Draman turned up late, and tradition demanded he pays for it the usual way: press-ups in front of everyone.
A video shared on social media shows Appiah playfully ordering Draman to the ground while amused fans looked on.
Draman laughed it off as he counted out his punishment reps before finally being allowed to join the session.
The Monday Stars group has built a reputation not just for reuniting Ghana’s football family but also for keeping the atmosphere disciplined yet fun.
For any player, whether you’re an ex-captain, an active Premier League star or a World Cup veteran, showing up late means one thing: press-ups.
For Draman, it was all smiles in the end as he rejoined his old mates under the watchful eye of his former skipper, proving once again that the bonds formed in the Black Stars dressing room never really fade.
