Former Ghana coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has praised the inclusion of Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan in the Black Stars’ setup ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Appiah currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the team’s Management Committee and oversees player relations. Although Gyan holds no official role, he has been actively engaging with the squad before their recent matches against Chad and Madagascar.

Gyan was present as the Black Stars secured a dominant 5-0 victory over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium. He then traveled with the team to Morocco, where they continued their impressive form with a 3-0 win against Madagascar.

Reflecting on their involvement, Akonnor emphasized the significant impact of the two former captains on the team’s performance.

“The inclusion of former players Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan has positively impacted the team, boosting confidence with their experience and leadership,” he told Asempa FM.

The Black Stars will reconvene in June for a four-nation tournament in England before facing Chad and Mali in Matchday 7 and 8 of the qualifiers in September.
