Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has downplayed criticism of his record Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has downplayed criticism of his record

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has downplayed criticism of his record and says he is unconcerned about the possibility of being sacked ahead of Ghana’s crunch 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali in Accra.

Since the start of his second stint in charge, Addo’s numbers have not been overly impressive on paper.

In 15 matches, he has recorded five wins, five draws and five defeats. His side has scored 27 goals, conceded 18, and managed only four clean sheets, amounting to a win rate of 33.3%.

Despite the statistics, the 49-year-old insists Ghana remain on course in the qualifiers and stressed that the numbers do not reflect the team’s progress.

“These statistics of my wins and losses are of no use. I’m not afraid of anything, not even getting sacked. We are still on top of Group I, so nothing has changed,” Addo told reporters.

The coach also warned against complacency, emphasising that no team will be taken lightly moving forward.

“Game by game, there will be no underrating of any team,” he stated.

Ghana’s encounter with Mali on Monday is expected to be one of the toughest in Group I, with both sides eyeing qualification to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Addo’s defiance highlights his focus on results rather than outside noise, as the Black Stars look to secure another vital win away from home.
