Police have launched a probe after a man was attacked at a hotel that has been used to house asylum seekers in Aberdeen.

The incident took place at around 10.45am yesterday at the Hampton by Hilton hotel in Westfield, which has been used to house asylum seekers since 2023.

A 26-year-old male sustained facial injuries following the incident.

Three men have been arrested in connection with the report of an assault and a weapon was recovered from the scene.

Police Scotland said there is no wider risk to the public and remain at the hotel, while enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ‘Officers were called to a premises in the Gordon Park area of Westhill, Aberdeenshire, at around 10.45am on Friday, 28 November, 2025 following a report of an assault.

‘A 26-year-old man was assaulted by a group of men and suffered a facial injury as a result. A weapon has been recovered from the scene.

‘Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries remain ongoing. ‘The incident is believed to be contained and there is no wider risk to the public.’

Andrew Bowie MP for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine said: ‘This is very troubling. I’ve been in touch with the Police over security arrangements at the hotel in the past and will revisit this on behalf of the community.

‘Now the most important thing is that they get the time and space to investigate this incident.’

Several protests by anti-immigration groups have been with counter-protests in recent months.

A Home Office spokesperson said: ‘This is a horrific incident and our thoughts go out to those affected. Violence in asylum seeker accommodation is not acceptable and any perpetrators will face the full force of the law.

‘The safety and wellbeing of all asylum seekers remain a priority for the Home Office, and we are committed to ensuring they receive the support and protection they need.’
