Today on Woman Crush Wednesday, we celebrate a trailblazer who brought families and loved ones closer at a time when communication across borders was almost impossible; Nana Adwoa Awindoh.

Before the rise of mobile phones, when letters often took months to reach their destinations, Nana Adwoa Awindoh created a platform that connected people in the diaspora with their families back home.

Through her groundbreaking television show “Greetings from Abroad”, she gave Ghanaians a lifeline to share messages, emotions, and experiences across continents.

Nana Adwoa Awindoh is a Ghanaian media personality and the Developmental Queen Mother of Afigya-Kwabre in the Ashanti Region.

With a passion for capturing motion and memories on video cameras, she pursued film and multimedia production at the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) after high school.

Following her studies, she worked with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and later served as a lecturer at NAFTI.

Her show “Greetings from Abroad” became a household name, bridging the gap between Ghanaians abroad and their families at home, while showcasing the realities of diaspora life.

Beyond her media achievements, Nana Adwoa Awindoh is also recognized as the mother of award-winning Ghanaian singer Efya, celebrated locally and internationally for her soulful love songs and powerful vocals.

Over the years, Nana Adwoa Awindoh has earned numerous accolades, including being named CIMG Marketing Woman of the Year in 2006.

In 2013, she was elected as the First President of the Continental Executive Board of the African Queens and Women Cultural Leaders Network. She is also an active member of the Ghana National Union of Queen Mothers (Women Traditional Leaders).

Her commitment to social impact shines through the OBAAPA Development Foundation, a nonprofit organization she founded to advocate for girl-child education and hygiene.

Through this initiative, she has traveled across schools and communities in Ghana, educating young girls on the importance of education, personal hygiene, and mentorship.

Today, GhanaWeb proudly gives Nana Adwoa Awindoh her flowers, honoring a woman who continues to write her name in the sands of time.
