Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, is a veteran Ghanaian actress, singer, scriptwriter, and television personality.

She began her career as a writer on the iconic TV dramas ‘Osofo Dadzie’ and ‘Keteke’, both of which she also acted in. However, her first acting role was in the drama series ‘Cantata’.

Maame Dokono has starred in over 50 movies, including ‘Children of the Mountain’, ‘Kweku Ananse’, ‘My Very Own Ghana Wedding’, ‘Matters of the Heart’, ‘I Surrender’, ‘A Stab in the Dark’, and ‘Obra’, where she played the lead role.

She was also the host of the most loved children’s television show, ‘By the Fireside’, a program that taught Ghanaian folklore and culture to children through storytelling, songs, and dance.

In addition, she hosted ‘Odo ne Asomdwe’ on Metro TV, a show that addressed social and human rights issues.

Beyond acting and hosting, Omaboe is also a musician. She sang in many of her movies and has released three albums, all of which she wrote, demonstrating her depth as a musician, not just an actress who occasionally performed songs.

Grace Omaboe also ventured into politics, contesting as a parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2000 and 2004, before later joining the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2008.

Throughout her illustrious career in film and television, Grace Omaboe has received over 40 awards, including ‘Best Supporting Actress’ at the 2016 Ghana Movie Awards.

In 2024, she was honored at the Ghana Women Awards for her outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry and Ghanaian society.

Maame Dokono is widely regarded as a national treasure, an icon who has inspired generations of artists and cemented her legacy in Ghanaian show business.
