Ghanaian sports enthusiasts have expressed mixed reactions to the Black Stars budget for the game against Chad for the 2025 World Cup qualifiers.
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation scrapped a proposed $10,000 winning bonus package for the Black Stars management team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali.
According to the minister, while players and technical staff will still receive their agreed bonuses, the package for team officials has been removed entirely.

The move forms part of a wider cost-cutting exercise that saw the ministry reduce the Ghana Football Association‘s total request of $2 million to $1.3 million.
Out of this, $841,290 has been allocated for the Chad fixture in N’Djamena, while $463,600 will cover the home match against Mali in Accra.
In reaction to this, some personalities and fans have lauded President John Dramani Mahama’s government for fulfilling their promise to make the Black Stars budget public.
They urged the sports minister to continue adopting the same strategy so that taxpayers can examine and have an idea of how their money is being expended on the team.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Black Stars management committee have been criticised for the amount of money they presented for approval without being frugal.
They fumed about the $5,000 allocated for fuel for a game that will be played in Chad via a flight, that had to be removed.

The Black stars route is from their hotel (Alisa – Ridge) to stadium and vice versa. And these people have budgeted 5000 dollars for fuel ? Eiii 😂😂

Chale it costs us close to a million dollars for just one Black Stars game, and “football people” make decisions, and when you complain, they tell you we don’t matter.

So this whole Black Stars budget for the world cup qualifiers has got me thinking…
Why are we paying a coach monthly salary and winning bonus
Isn’t his job to win football games?
So why are we “rewarding” him for something he’s expected to do? 🤔#SportyBreakfast #BlackStars— Robert (@ghansah_robert) September 3, 2025
How can that be?? How many times was the bus used and how long can the bus run on a full Tank of fuel. A full Tank for the bus won’t cost 6000ghc, so the GFA should explain why the amount is even priced in USD in the first place. Too many issues need to be investigated

It’s diabolical to budget $5000 to fuel a bus for a game Ghana is going to play away from home. The bus took them to training on Monday and Tuesday and off to Chad they went. Why do you need to buy $5000 worth of fuel for that?
