The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has cut a GH¢58,000 ($5,000) allocation that was initially budgeted by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for fueling the Black Stars’ bus ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.

The amount, which was meant to cover the team’s transportation during training sessions in Accra before departing for N’Djamena, was deemed “excessive” by ministry officials and subsequently struck off the final budget.

The decision underscores ongoing scrutiny of Black Stars-related expenditures, as the government moves to reduce costs while still supporting the team’s qualification bid.

With players and technical staff already assured of lucrative winning bonuses, $5,000 per player and $10,000 for head coach Otto Addo, the ministry said the removal of the bus fueling package was to ensure accountability.

The Black Stars will depart Accra on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, for Chad, where they face the hosts at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on Thursday.

Ghana currently tops Group I with 15 points from six matches, and victory against Chad would further boost their push toward a fifth World Cup appearance.

After the Chad game, Ghana will face Mali in Accra on September 8, 2025, before wrapping up their qualifying campaign in October against the Central African Republic and Comoros.
