The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has paid a working visit to the Spintex Knights Basketball Team at their training grounds as they prepare for the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2025.

The visit, which took place on October 10th, forms part of the Minister’s efforts to show support for non-football sporting disciplines and to encourage the team as they represent Ghana for the second consecutive time at the continental showpiece.

The Spintex Knights enjoyed an outstanding domestic season, finishing undefeated after 18 matches.

Addressing the players and technical team, Hon. Adams commended the club for their consistency, discipline, and professionalism, describing their achievement as a symbol of Ghana’s growing strength in basketball; “It gives me joy that what we describe as the least financed sports is getting some attention at some level. And this will serve as a motivation to encourage many other clubs to also stay up their performance,” he said.

The Minister further praised the Knights for maintaining excellence over the past three years, emphasizing that their commitment reflects the potential of basketball in Ghana; “I’m happy that the Knights are representing Ghana and consistently have been told that they have been at the top there for the last three years. It shows a certain discipline. It shows a certain level of training that they are adapting to. And I can only urge them to keep it up,” he noted.

Hon. Adams reiterated his commitment to developing all sports disciplines under his ministry, not just football; “Every sport must get some attention, especially when you show seriousness. They must be given the necessary attention. It should not just be football. And I made it very clear that I was not going to be a minister for football. I’m going to be a minister for sports and, by addition, recreation. So every sport must feel big,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of investing in basketball, the Minister described the sport as an elite discipline with the potential to transform lives and create opportunities for young people; “Basketball is not a recreational sport. It’s a sport that is an elite sport. So investing in it is right. It opens a lot of doors for young persons. So the Ministry will work shoulder-to-shoulder with the federation and Spintex Knights to make sure that they continue to grow and represent the country at the club level,” he assured.

The Spintex Knights are now intensifying their preparations as they aim to make Ghana proud in the BAL 2025 season.
