The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has reiterated the government’s commitment to grassroots sports development with his attendance at the maiden edition of the Yingor Cup 2025, held in Dabala, South Tongu District, over the weekend of September 13–14, 2025.

The two-day football tournament brought together local teams and fans in an electrifying display of community spirit and emerging talent. The competition climaxed in a dramatic final where Yingor FC defeated Cule FC 8–7 on penalties to lift the trophy, marking a historic first for the tournament.

The grand finale was graced by top dignitaries, including Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor (Member of Parliament for South Tongu) and Mr. Stan Dogbe (Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations).

In his remarks, Hon. Adams highlighted the Ministry’s deliberate focus on grassroots talent identification and community engagement as part of its broader sports reset agenda. He underscored that competitions at the district level are vital to building a robust national talent pipeline and assured organisers of the Ministry’s continuous support through equipment provision, financial backing, and technical assistance.

“Grassroots football is the heartbeat of our national sports ecosystem. By supporting community tournaments like the Yingor Cup, we are investing in the future of Ghanaian sports,” the Minister said.

As part of his participation, Kofi Adams presented the trophy to the champions, reaffirming the Ministry’s dedication to recognising and uplifting young athletes and local clubs across the country.

The success of the Yingor Cup 2025 demonstrates the power of collaboration in advancing sports development at all levels.
