Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has revealed that the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, is in negotiations with major broadcasters, including SuperSport, to secure a deal that would increase the visibility and popularity of the Ghana Premier League.

Once a thriving competition, the Ghana Premier League has seen a sharp decline in attendance at match venues and limited television coverage, leading to a waning interest among fans.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, Ayariga disclosed that efforts are underway to reform the league, with a potential broadcast deal involving one of Africa’s biggest sports networks – SuperSport.

“The Minister of Sports has a major agenda to revive football at the district, regional, and national levels. He is already engaging with the media to explore ways to promote sports,” Ayariga stated.

“He has informed me that he is negotiating with SuperSport and other broadcasters to start covering our local leagues,” he added.

Currently, the Ghana Premier League lacks an official broadcaster, with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) granting rights to selected TV channels to air games while also streaming matches via the GFA app.
