Kofi Adams is the Minister of Sports and Recreation
Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced that he will donate two months of his salary to the country’s newly created Sports Fund, describing the gesture as a personal contribution toward rebuilding the nation’s sporting ecosystem.
His pledge comes on the heels of the passage of the Sports Fund Bill by the Parliament of Ghana, which clears the way for the establishment of a dedicated financing mechanism for sports development.
Addressing lawmakers on the floor of the House, the minister said his decision was meant to demonstrate leadership by example and to encourage corporate bodies, sports administrators and private individuals to also support the initiative.
The Buem Constituency lawmaker characterised the fund as a timely intervention that could help transform Ghana’s sports sector by ensuring predictable and sustainable funding for athletes, associations and development programmes.
The Sports Fund is designed to channel resources into grassroots talent development, upgrade infrastructure, enhance athlete training and preparation, and generally promote excellence across multiple disciplines.
Government officials believe the new structure will tackle persistent funding gaps that have long hampered the sector, while creating a more stable and transparent system to support sports nationwide.
