Nyame Somafo Yaw, founder of Asomdwee Ntonton Som, claims spiritual forces are preventing the Komenda Sugar Factory from operating after over eight years of inactivity.

He urged the government, chiefs, and authorities to allow his prayers for revival, positioning himself as the sole solution during the Asomdwee Ntonton Som convention, in an interview with GHOne News’ Yaw Boagyan.

The factory, in Ghana’s Central Region in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipality, was meant to boost youth employment but faces technical and supply issues, according to official reports.

Established in 1964, the Komenda Sugar Factory has endured repeated shutdowns due to operational setbacks and raw material shortages.

Revived briefly under past governments, it remains idle despite promises, with an Interim Management Committee assessing viability since August 2025.

The Ministry of Trade targets full operations by late 2026, securing land for sugarcane farming and seeking investors.

Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare states that farmers are ready, with focus on infrastructure and supply chains.

Nyame Somafo Yaw asserts that evil powers are blocking the factory, citing a rejected attempt to exorcise them with local chiefs, who deemed it risky.
