A 47-year-old spare parts dealer has reportedly been beaten to death by his own brothers in a dispute over a single-room house at Aboaso Zongo in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The deceased, identified as Muntari Bagio, was allegedly attacked by his siblings during a heated disagreement over control of a room bequeathed to them by their late father.

According to eyewitness accounts, the two suspects Kufulu, a teacher, and another brother popularly known in the town as “Who Be You” were unhappy that their half-brother Bagio had full control over the room. Bagio is said to have rented out the room to a nephew, a decision that angered his brothers who wanted ownership rights.

What started as a family misunderstanding reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation. The suspects allegedly assaulted Bagio until he lost consciousness. He was later pronounced dead.

Disturbingly, reports indicate that some community elders are attempting to shield the suspects from prosecution. They are said to be mediating the matter privately due to family and religious ties, rather than allowing the police to take it up.

Residents of Aboaso Zongo have expressed shock over the incident, with many calling for justice to prevail. They argue that such a grievous crime should not be “settled at home” but must be handled according to the laws of the country.

Police in the area are yet to issue an official statement, while pressure mounts from concerned citizens for the suspects to be arrested and prosecuted.
