The Basetsana Basetsana head coach, Maud Khumalo has praised his team’s collective effort in their scoring draw against the Black Princesses of Ghana in the ongoing U-20 FIFA World Cup

Speaking to the media after the match, Maud admitted that scoring away from home was a key boost for her side, but acknowledged the challenge posed by a well-prepared Ghanaian team with vast international experience.

“It’s an advantage we managed to score goals away. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Our strength is our preparation. We knew Ghana had been qualifying for the World Cup for many years, with experienced players competing at a high standard.”

“We struggled with set pieces, but we didn’t allow them to hit us in open play. We analyzed them well and knew they’d go wide. We told ourselves to utilize the chances,” she said.

Emphasising teamwork over individual brilliance, the coach dismissed the notion of standout performers, insisting the result was built on unity and discipline.

“Honestly, I was backing everyone to start the game. It’s teamwork and collective effort. It’s not a one-man show. When we work collectively, that’s our strength. I told them to run for each ball or wait for the next player and that’s what they did.”

The Black Princesses will face South Africa in the return leg of the U-20 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
