The troubled past of a son accused of stabbing his own mother to death in Florida was revealed as the community mourned their ‘sweet’ neighbor.

Manuel Farfan-Cabello, 28, was arrested on Friday in Tamarac and charged with first-degree murder after police found his mother’s body just before 8pm.

Deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office found Farfan-Cabello’s mother, Ylda Cabello-Ynocente, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The 58-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, NBC 6 reported. Farfan-Cabello was tracked down later that day and arrested.

Ylda’s neighbors told the outlet that she was ‘very quiet’ and revealed that police had been called to their home before the incident.

‘I’ve seen her on the porch a few times, and we waved hi to her,’ one neighbor said.

Another neighbor recalled that Farfan-Cabello had allegedly smashed all of the windows at their home just a few months ago.

He said that, just that afternoon, Ylda’s son had knocked on their door and asked for a cigarette with what looked like blood on him.

Neighbors also revealed to Local 10 that Farfan-Cabello had been knocking door-to-door and asking for money hours before the stabbing.

Farfan-Cabello appeared in court on Sunday where he was denied bond and ordered to undergo a mental health screening.

Ylda’s ex-husband, Oscar Montero, told NBC 6 that he is still struggling to process her loss.

‘It’s very hard to explain to you about how hard this is,’ he said.

Ylda’s sister-in-law, Rocio, flew to South Florida from Peru after learning about the incident and told the outlet that Farfan-Cabello is schizophrenic.

She said he had undergone treatment, but he continued to suffer from hallucinations and hopes he gets help.

Ylda’s family returned to their home on Sunday to clean up, Local 10 reported.

Rocio said their family is looking to return Ylda’s body to Peru, where much of their family lives.

Her family described her as a devoted mother and a kind, hard-working woman whose faith and family meant everything to her, the outlet reported.

It remains unclear what prompted the stabbing.
