Ghanaian UK-based gospel musician Sonnie Badu organized a peace walk in Accra on Saturday, November 23, 2024, to emphasize the importance of maintaining peace ahead of Ghana’s general elections on December 7, 2024.

Dubbed The Peace Walk with Sonnie Badu, the event began at Danquah Circle and concluded at the Black Star Square (Independence Square). Hundreds of participants, clad in branded T-shirts, joined the march, creating a vibrant and united atmosphere.

Among the notable personalities who participated were Rev. Lawrence Tetteh, Founder and President of Worldwide Miracle Outreach; gospel musician Cwesi Oteng; music producer Kaywa; and entertainment analyst and journalist Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo.

Addressing the crowd, the speakers reiterated calls for peaceful conduct before, during, and after the elections. They stressed the importance of responsible voting, urging Ghanaians to make decisions that would benefit the nation’s future.

Sonnie Badu’s message to Ghanaians, shared during a prior radio interview, was clear: “Cast a vote for Ghana. Ghana must win.” Encouraging citizens to exercise their right to vote responsibly, he added, “If you’re happy, vote. If not, vote. Consider your circumstances and vote. Don’t let someone deceive you with gari, rice, or yam to throw away your precious vote.”

He further highlighted the fleeting attention some politicians give to communities, stating, “The only time you have power is now [during the election period], and it’s shown by politicians visiting and mingling with you as if they can relate to your circumstances. When they get power, they will never come back.”

The peace walk also served as a prelude to Sonnie Badu’s annual Rhythms of Africa gospel music concert. Scheduled for Friday, November 29, 2024, at Independence Square in Accra, the event is themed The Peace Edition to reinforce messages of unity and harmony as Ghana approaches the elections.

Since its inception in 2023, Rhythms of Africa has gained prominence for its dynamic performances and focus on African spirituality and culture through worship and music. The 2024 edition will be a free concert, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all Ghanaians.

Sonnie Badu’s initiatives ahead of the elections underscore his commitment to using music and faith to achieve societal impact.
