The Medical Superintendent of Mampong Hospital in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Kwasi Baffour Gyimah, has urged Ghanaians to adopt healthier sexual habits.

In a discussion with Eunice Akoto Attakora-Manu on the Asetena Pa series, Dr. Gyimah emphasised the risks associated with “marathon sex,” warning that certain sexual positions could pose serious health risks.

During the conversation about whether sex should be classified as exercise, Dr. Gyimah explained, “It all comes down to duration. Sex usually doesn’t last beyond 30 minutes, so it doesn’t qualify as a significant form of exercise. It’s not the same as an intense workout session,” he clarified, injecting some humor into the discussion.

He cautioned individuals with underlying health issues, such as hypertension, stating, “Some sexual positions can put added strain on the body, particularly for those with high blood pressure. Men on medication or those with hypertension need to be especially mindful of this.”

Dr. Gyimah concluded with a word of caution for men who may feel pressured to meet high expectations in the bedroom.

“Men should avoid overexerting themselves just to satisfy their partners. Those brief moments of intense activity could lead to serious health risks, including life-threatening consequences,” he warned, urging men to prioritise their life and safety over performance.
