A section of football fans have rejected reports that Jordan Ayew is set to be announced as the substantive Black Stars captain ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

It was noted that Thomas Partey, who was deputy to Dede Ayew, rejected the same role (deputy skipper) when offered the opportunity to focus on his football.

In response to the report, some individuals argued that since Partey was the deputy captain, it would be wise for him to be given the substantive role.

“I think skipping Partey to give the captaincy to Jordan is not right. Partey should be the original captain, with Jordan as his deputy. The decision can bring division to the Black Stars camp,” one fan told Benjamin Sackey during the Sports Debate show.

There were those who were of the view that the captaincy should move away from the Ayew family to give others the opportunity, with Partey being the right person.

“Jordan Ayew is not supposed to be given the captaincy, it should rather be given to Partey, since he is not part of the Ayew family, to encourage other players,” one individual said.

Another person added: “The Ayew family have done well for the team over the years. Dede Ayew was the previous captain, so now passing it on to another player would be wise. I prefer it be given to a different player who is not part of their family for the team to progress.”

“The immediate past captain was Dede Ayew, and now giving it to Jordan is not right. Other players like Partey would be ideal. Kudus also deserves it, but he is young,” a fan told GhanaWeb.
