Ghanaian musician Sherifa Gunu has expressed her concerns about social media in the music industry, calling it both a blessing and a curse.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, she lamented the growing pressure on female artistes to compromise their dignity in search of clicks.

According to her, many musicians now feel compelled to post revealing content on platforms like TikTok to gain attention, overshadowing raw talent.

“Social media is a blessing and a curse. Even if you’re the most talented artiste, you won’t get noticed unless you’re half-naked on TikTok. Sadly, talent alone isn’t enough anymore,” she lamented.

Despite these challenges, Sherifa remains committed to using her platform to promote authentic music.

“I still use my page to remind fans that real music exists,” she added.

She also highlighted the lack of recognition for veteran artists in Ghana, contrasting it with other nations that celebrate their cultural icons while they are still alive.

Sherifa criticised the trend of honouring legends only after their passing or after they gain international acclaim, stressing the need for greater appreciation of Ghana’s pioneering musicians.
