Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has chastised local club owners over their lack of proactivity in tackling hooliganism during matches in the country.

He fumed over why the managers of the various local clubs are unable to put in place stringent measures to control their fans and avoid violent incidents during games, which tarnish the image of Ghana football.

The Member of Parliament for the Buem constituency called for intensive sensitisation on the dangers of hooliganism in football for club owners to handle their supporters well.

“What I have seen and know is that what we must do is provide proper education for club owners. They need serious education even before the fans.

“Some club owners seem not to be up to the task beyond just owning the clubs,” he stated during an interview with Sporty FM.

Adams further expressed his frustration over the growing nature of violence in Ghana football, labeling club owners and officials as “clueless.”

“Some management clearly seems not to understand; they are so clueless about what football is all about,” he added.

This comes after violence erupted during Nations FC’s game against Basake Holy Stars in the Ghana Premier League, which ended prematurely.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has served notice that it is probing the chaotic incident and would sanction persons found culpable.
