Ghanaian music icon Mzbel has set tongues waging on social media after she made a post about the normalisation of breastfeeding in public.

In a post shared on her Facebook page, the ’16 Years’ hitmaker strongly defended breastfeeding mothers, urging society to embrace this natural act even when it’s done in public.

“Offended by breastfeeding? Don’t look! Breastfeeding is not a choice; it’s a responsibility. Normalise breastfeeding. Nurse in public. I make milk. What is your superpower?” she wrote.

But the highlight of the post, however, was the video associated with it; Mzbel had added a video of herself breastfeeding her daughter in the backseat of her vehicle.

The post has generated mixed reactions from fans and followers, with many commending the songstress for using her platform to address a significant social issue.

“This is what we need to hear. Mothers deserve to breastfeed their babies wherever they need to,” one commenter wrote.

“Congratulations on your education on motherhood and breastfeeding to our upcoming generation mothers,” said another.

However, other social media users expressed discomfort with the video Mzbel posted, with some suggesting that she should have posted the message without the video.

“Breastfeeding a baby is necessary, but to record and show it to everyone on social media is the problem. Maame, know that you are no longer 16 years old if you have forgotten. It’s been 50 years since you sang that song. Let maturity lead you,” one commenter posted.

“You intentionally fixing a camera up just to show it is so unfortunate. Posting it online gives the reach and clout,” another said.
