The announcement of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Group Stage Best XI has sparked a wave of disappointment and outrage among Ghanaian football fans after star midfielder Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah was left out of CAF’s official selection.

The Best XI, unveiled by CAF, features standout performers like Zambia’s Racheal Kundananji and Barbra Banda in attack, Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade in midfield, and Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak pulling the strings from the midfield.

However, for many Black Queens supporters, the glaring absence of Chantelle, widely praised for her commanding displays in Ghana’s group games, is simply unacceptable.

On social media, the reactions have been swift and emotional.

“Nope… none of those midfielders is better than Asantewaa,” one fan, commented bluntly under the announcement.

Another fan echoed the frustration, writing, “At least Chantel and Asantewa, Bonsu could have made it to this 11. Ah, well, it depends on statistics.”

The sentiment has been shared by several others who questioned the selection process and the perceived snub of Ghana’s midfield dynamo.

“What!!! Not a single Ghanaian?” wrote another fan, while a frustrated fan added, “No Shantelle 8? This isn’t fair”

Despite the disappointment, many Ghanaians have rallied behind the Black Queens, whose performances have renewed hope for a return to the continental elite.

With a quarter-final game against Algeria ahead on Saturday, July 19, 2025, fans are now pinning their hopes on Chantelle and her teammates to silence the critics on the pitch and make their mark where it matters most, in lifting the trophy.
