Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, is once again making headlines, this time for his electrifying performance at the just-ended 2025 President’s Cup held on Sunday, July 6, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

During his time on stage, Shatta paused mid-performance to acknowledge President Mahama and heap praises on him.

Midway through his submission he referred to the President as what he termed as a “smiling mafia.”

Unclear what exactly that meant, Shatta stated, “I just want to say a big shout out to the President of Ghana, His Excellency John Mahama, everybody say the smiling mafia. Say Mahama you be smiling mafia.”

Meanwhile, Shatta’s performance has since earned applause from scores of netizens.

While some praised him for his energetic delivery and bold shoutout, others debated the implications of the “smiling mafia” tag.

One X user wrote, “This statement be mad oooo. The interpretation be plenty.”

Another, commented, “How can you hate Shatta Wale and Mahama? Too much vibe!”
