Sidra Smith, the twin sister of Hollywood star Tarsha Smith, has obtained Ghanaian citizenship.

Sidra the twin sister of Tarsha Smith became a Ghanaian after a swearing-in ceremony led by President Akufo-Addo.

Sidra Smith, 53, is a producer and writer. She is known for A Luv Tale in 1999, Daredevil in 2003 and Free Angela and All Political Prisoners in 2012.

Originally, Sidra was born in Camden, New Jersey, USA.

The historic swearing-in ceremony is a key milestone in the Beyond the Return initiative, launched in 2019 to commemorate 400 years since the first African was forcibly taken to America.

The programme seeks to strengthen ties between Ghana and the African diaspora, fostering a sense of shared heritage and promoting deeper engagement.

In his remarks, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the value of unity, tolerance, and collective progress. He urged the newly sworn-in citizens to leverage their skills and experiences to contribute to Ghana’s development, creating a better future for all.

“This moment marks a significant step toward reconnecting Africans on the continent with their brothers and sisters in the diaspora,” the President noted, aligning with a vision he first articulated in Washington, D.C., in 2018.

Hon. Henry Quartey, Minister for the Interior, congratulated the new citizens, reminding them of their responsibility to respect Ghana’s laws and uphold the principles of the 1992 Constitution.
