Iconic music producer and engineer, Edward Nana Poku Osei, known in the industry as Hammer of The Last Two, has advised Ghanaian youth to steer clear of pride and showmanship, especially at the peak of their careers.

According to Hammer, displaying arrogance can lead to disastrous outcomes.

Hammer recounted a personal experience that humbled him and reinforced the importance of humility in the face of success. In an interview on Accra-based CTV’s MASTER OF THE GAME, hosted by His Royal Blackness, King Kwasi Kyei Drakwah (KKD), on Monday, January 6, 2025, he shared how his pride almost led to a dangerous situation in the Spintex area of the Greater Accra Region.

The incident occurred during the peak of his career when he and a friend, along with his girlfriend, were on their way to a meeting to discuss a video shoot.

On the way, his car broke down due to overheating. While waiting for a mechanic to arrive, Hammer and the two friends left for the meeting, and after it concluded, he and his friends made their way to the Barclays Bank area to catch a taxi to East Legon.

While waiting for the taxi, Hammer recalled being tapped on the back by a man, whom he ignored.

When the man persisted, Hammer turned around to find a Nigerian who was acting arrogantly.

Eventually, they managed to get a taxi, and Hammer invited the man to come close to him in the front seat.

To assert his dominance, Hammer said he showed the man a gun he had in his bag, warning him to be more cautious in the future.

However, this act took an unexpected turn when the taxi driver saw the gun and immediately switched off the engine, claiming he would not proceed with the trip.

The Nigerian man began shouting, “Armed robbers! Armed robbers!” and within seconds, a crowd gathered, ready to lynch them.

“I stood there watching as people threw stones at us,” Hammer said, reflecting on how quickly the situation escalated.

“What crossed my mind in that moment was: ‘Hammer of The Last Two Lynched’ would be the headline.”

Fortunately, just as the situation reached its boiling point, a gentleman named Yaw Barimah stepped in, recognizing Hammer and shouting, “It’s Hammer, not an armed robber!”

His intervention prevented what could have been a tragic outcome, and the crowd dispersed as police arrived to diffuse the situation.

“I managed to get his phone number in the heat of the rescue,” Hammer said, describing Yaw as his “angel” in that moment of crisis.

Hammer emphasized that his pride had nearly led to his own near-death experience and put the lives of his innocent friends in danger.

“It was a simple show of pride, but it nearly cost us our lives,” he admitted.

“My pride put their lives in danger, and I’ve learned a valuable lesson from that day.” Since then, I have learned to walk away from such situations, he concluded.
