A Colorado dentist accused of poisoning his wife’s protein shakes sent a disturbing text before her death.
James Craig sent a bizarre text to his wife Angela Craig, 43, promising he hadn’t poisoned her when she mentioned how her protein shake and magnesium supplement had made her dizzy and she told him she felt ‘drugged.’
‘Given our history, I know that must be triggering. Just for the record, I didn’t drug you,’ he wrote to her on March 6, 2023. ‘I am super worried though. You really looked pale before I left. Like in your lips even.’
Angela’s sister told investigators that James had drugged his wife five years earlier and that he claimed to have been planning to kill himself by lethal injection in their bathroom, The Telegraph reported.
Angela died in March 2023 of poisoning from cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, the latter a substance found in over-the-counter eye drops, according to the coroner.
Craig was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder in March 2023 for allegedly dosing his Angela with a fatal dose of potassium cyanide, resulting in her death.
Police have described Craig’s alleged crimes as a ‘heinous, complex, and calculated murder’ and said the dentist had poisoned his wife’s shakes multiple times.
Angela went in and out of the hospital several times before her death and her husband of 23 years played the role of dotting spouse each time, sending her photos of the six children, checking in with her, and appearing concerned for her well-being.

During her final hospital stay, he told Angela’s friend, Michelle Redfeam, that if it wasn’t his wife in the hospital bed ‘this would be kind of a fun puzzle to try to work out!’
But prosecutors allege that the dentist was the puzzle designer and knew exactly how it would all fit together.
They claim his scheme started in early 2023 when he ordered arsenic metal on Amazon for $13 and began poisoning his wife on March 6.
History from his hard drive also show suspicious searches, such as: ‘How many grams of pure arsenic will kill a human’ and ‘is arsenic detectable in [an] autopsy?’
He later ordered 25 grams of potassium cyanide and told the supplier he was a surgeon who was performing a ‘craniofacial reconstruction.’
The coroner found that arsenic had been a ‘significant condition’ in her death, according to The Telegraph.
The first person to raise suspicious against James was his business partner, Ryan Redfearn, who told staff that the dentist had order cyanide, but the practice has no reason to use it.
Ryan had said James was on the ‘verge of bankruptcy’ and was a ‘risk-taker.’ James had also filed for bankruptcy in 2021, according to The Telegraph.

Angela’s sister, Toni Kofoed, told investigators that James had run his ‘dental office into the ground’ and he had recently gambled away $2,000 while vacation in Las Vegas, The Telegraph reported.
The dentist was also allegedly addicted to porn and said to have had affairs with multiple women.
Prosecutors accuse James of wanting to kill Angela so he could start a new life with an orthodontist he was having an affair with in Austin, Texas.
The orthodontist allegedly flew into Denver twice while Angela’s was hospitalized and police said the email exchanges between her and James were ‘intimate in nature and contained sexually explicit conversations.’
After her death, James told a case worker that his wife was suicidal and had previously overdosed. He also told them he believed her toxicology report would come back positive, but he wasn’t sure which substances.
Their six children did not mention that their mother was suicidal or depressed and the case worker suspect the dentist was ‘attempting to build a cover story for what really happened to Angela.’
James has also been accused of attempted to solicit an inmate to kill the detective investigating his case.
He has also copped more charges since being in jail, including asking another inmate to forge diary entries that would make it look like his wife killed herself. He had allegedly asked the inmate to plant them at the family home. The inmate declined, according to the outlet.

Craig was also previously charged with smuggling a letter out of jail with an inmate bonded out by one of his adult daughters.
It asked her to make a fake video of Angela Craig asking Craig to get poisons for her, according to prosecutors.
For that he was charged with felony count of solicitation to commit tampering with physical evidence after the plot involving his daughter was revealed.
James had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
