Hearts beat Kotoko 4-0 back in the year 2000 Hearts beat Kotoko 4-0 back in the year 2000

Former Accra Hearts of Oak management member Aziz Haruna has made another startling revelation, this time detailing a bizarre ritual he claims was performed before the club’s historic 4–0 thrashing of Asante Kotoko in 2000.

Speaking in a chilling interview on Sporty FM, Aziz recounted how spiritual acts, some extreme, were carried out in the buildup to the memorable match at the Accra Sports Stadium.

According to him, the Hearts hierarchy at the time went to extraordinary lengths to ensure victory over their fierce rivals.

“We had to write all the names of Kotoko players and go and look for freshly buried bodies. We wrote their names, opened the dead bodies’ mouths, put the papers inside, and buried them again. I’m telling you, we did a lot,” Aziz revealed.

His revelation left the show’s host, Fiifi Banson, speechless and visibly stunned.

The infamous game, played on March 15, 2000, remains one of the most dominant displays in the history of Ghana’s greatest football rivalry.

Ishmael Addo was the hero of the day, scoring twice in the first half before Ken Sarpong and Emmanuel Osei Kuffour completed the rout in the second half.

The emphatic 4–0 scoreline still stands as the biggest margin of victory between the two clubs in a competitive fixture.

Aziz’s revelation comes just hours before another Hearts-Kotoko showdown.

The rivals will face off at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 4 pm.
