Kemi Badenoch today mocked Labour MPs for being ‘too scared’ to kick out Sir Keir Starmer in case they trigger a general election and go on to lose their jobs.

The Tory leader, during a visit to a McDonald’s, told the Prime Minister he was still ‘in a very dangerous place’ despite him surviving an immediate coup attempt.

Sir Keir is enduring the worst crisis of his premiership over the Peter Mandelson scandal, with Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar leading calls for him to go.

But the PM was granted a reprieve yesterday when Labour ministers failed to follow Mr Sarwar over the top and publicly pledged their support to Sir Keir.

Speaking to reporters after preparing a sausage McMuffin and a hash brown in the McDonald’s kitchen, Mrs Badenoch warned Sir Keir his leadership is still in jeopardy.

‘I’ve got a lot of questions to ask him, but he is in a very dangerous place,’ she said.

‘The Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said the quiet bit out loud. Labour MPs and the Labour Party have lost confidence in their leader.

‘But the MPs are too scared of losing their jobs, so they’re not going to call an election, and they’ve given him a stay of execution.

‘The sad thing is that the country is suffering from not being governed at all.’

Mrs Badenoch demanded the release of the files showing how Lord Mandelson was appointed US ambassador by Sir Keir, despite his links to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

She said: ‘Tomorrow at Prime Minister’s Questions, the Prime Minister will need to explain why the documents he promised to release last week have not turned up yet.

‘What are they covering up? The Cabinet Office has told ministers not to release their text messages like (Health Secretary) Wes Streeting did.

‘I think that there’s something they’re trying to hide and I’m going to get to the bottom of it.’

Mrs Badenoch returned to a McDonald’s kitchen on Tuesday some 30 years after working at the fast food restaurant as a teenager.

The Conservative leader prepared a sausage McMuffin and a hash brown but was warned she was ‘too slow’ by one staff member.

During her stint in the kitchen of the Ruislip branch in north-west London, she wore a personalised name badge with her ‘Leader of the Opposition’ title.

Asked how it felt to be back in a McDonald’s kitchen, she said: ‘I did have a sausage and egg McMuffin.

‘It’s been 30 years since I last worked at McDonald’s but there are lots of good memories.’

Mrs Badenoch has previously claimed she ‘became working class’ while working at the restaurant chain as a 16-year-old.
