Veteran Ghanaian musician Rex Omar has explained why he has developed admiration for dancehall star Shatta Wale, describing him as a fighter whose outspoken personality has helped him connect strongly with young people.
According to Rex Omar, Shatta Wale’s willingness to openly challenge people and respond whenever he feels offended has played a significant role in shaping his public image and building his loyal fan base.

Rex Omar said he particularly admires Shatta Wale for refusing to remain silent when he feels attacked or challenged.
He argued that if the dancehall musician had adopted a quieter and more reserved personality, relying solely on his music to communicate his views, he might not have achieved the same level of public recognition.
“Shatta Wale is a fighter, I like him so much, but trust me, if Shatta became like the so-called ‘decent artiste’, nice guy and the quiet guy, if you offend him, he won’t say anything, expecting the music alone to speak for him, he wouldn’t have gotten this far,” Rex Omar said.
The veteran musician suggested that Shatta Wale’s confrontational approach is an important part of the identity he has built throughout his career.
‘He Became a Voice for a Lot of Young People’
Rex Omar further argued that Shatta Wale’s willingness to challenge societal expectations has helped him identify with a section of Ghana’s youth.
According to him, the artiste’s tendency to respond strongly to criticism and perceived attacks has resonated with young people who may also feel the need to speak up for themselves.
“Shatta became who he is because he decided to fight society. No matter who you are, if you say something to offend him, he will return it in double and so he became a voice for a lot of the young hungry people,” he added.
Rex Omar’s comments offer an insight into how Shatta Wale’s outspoken personality has contributed to his appeal beyond his music.
