Dancehall superstar Shatta Wale has sparked a fresh wave of debate in Ghana’s music space after confidently stating that rapper Medikal is destined to take over from Sarkodie as the next king of rap in the country.

In a recent interview with US-based Ghanaian blogger Firestick, the outspoken artist heaped praise on Medikal’s influence, charisma, and originality, arguing that the “Stubborn Academy” rapper is already shaping the next generation of Ghanaian rap acts.

“Medikal will be able to succeed Sarkodie hands down,” Shatta Wale said assertively.

He explained that Medikal’s unique flow and delivery have made such a significant impact that many up-and-coming rappers are now imitating his style.

“What Medikal does is what most of the boys learn. The way Medikal raps is how plenty of the boys also rap. It’s just that we don’t speak the truth here,” he added.

Sarkodie, widely regarded as the gold standard of Ghanaian hip-hop, has maintained his dominance in the industry for over a decade with his lyrical dexterity and international reach. However, Shatta Wale believes it is time to recognise Medikal not just as a hitmaker, but as a legitimate heir to Sarkodie’s throne.

Social media reactions have been mixed, with fans of both artists weighing in on the bold declaration.

While some agree with Shatta Wale’s take, others argue that Medikal still has a long way to go to match Sarkodie’s legacy.
