Sports journalist Collins Atta Poku has disclosed a confrontation that took place between Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku and Sharaf Mahama, son President John Mahama, after Ghana lost to Angola in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

According to Atta Poku, he was in the United States when an individual who was present at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium informed him that the crowd was furious after the Black Stars lost 1-0 to Angola.

He noted that Sharaf Mahama, who was also upset, went to the dressing room to express his grievances to Kurt Okraku about the team’s performance.

Speaking on Sompa FM, Atta Poku clarified that although the conversation was tense, with everyone upset about the Black Stars’ performance, it did put pressure on Kurt Okraku.

“I was in the US, and someone called me. After the match against Angola in Kumasi, which we lost, some people were angry. Sharaf Mahama stormed the dressing room, took pictures, and expressed his displeasure with Kurt over the team’s terrible performance. In fact, they put pressure on Kurt,” he said in Twi.

The Black Stars’ loss to Angola 1-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was their first defeat at the venue in many years, leaving most Ghanaians outraged.

The team’s performance did not improve, as they went on to lose and draw their subsequent games, ultimately failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.
