The 23rd Annual Schools and Colleges Athletics Tournament came to a thrilling conclusion on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Sekondi College.

Over two days of intense competition, students from across the region showcased remarkable athletic talent in both track and field events, making this year’s tournament one of the most competitive in recent memory.

The tournament opened on Thursday with heats and preliminary events across several disciplines.

Adiembra Senior High School (ADISEC) made a strong statement in the boys’ category, winning the 4x200m in 1:32.88, the 5000m in 16:49, and the 4x100m finals in 46.16 seconds.

In the field, they added the shot put title with a throw of 10.10 meters.

In the girls’ division, Shama Senior High School (SHAAS) dominated, taking gold in the long jump (4.35m), 4x100m (53.67s), 4x200m (53.87s), and 800m (2:25.84).

Diabene SHS also stood out, winning the high jump with a clearance of 1.40 meters.

Friday was all about the finals, with bragging rights on the line, particularly in the 4x100m relays, which became the most anticipated events of the day.

In the boys’ 4x100m relay, ADISEC edged out SHAAS in a close and thrilling race.

In the girls’ final, however, SHAAS returned the favor, sprinting past ADISEC to claim the title.

Other notable events included the javelin throw finals in both the boys’ and girls’ categories, where technique, strength, and precision were on full display.

Among the standout athletes were Ibrahim Mbaw of ADISEC, who impressed in the sprints, and Lordina of SHAAS, who delivered a remarkable all-around performance.

Lordina competed in multiple disciplines, including the high jump, triple jump, javelin throw, 4x100m, and 4x400m, establishing herself as one of the tournament’s breakout stars.

Despite ADISEC’s strong start, they were unable to retain all their titles from last year, conceding two trophies to a resurgent SHAAS side.

After the points were tallied, Shama Senior High School (SHAAS) emerged as the overall champions in both the boys’ and girls’ categories:

    Girls’ Category:

    1. SHAAS – 179 points

    2. ADISEC – 121 points

    3. Sekondi College (SECKO) – 77 points

    Boys’ Category:

    1. SHAAS – 161 points

    2. ADISEC – 129 points

    3. Fijai SHS – 66 points

As the competition drew to a close, athletes were presented with certificates and medals in recognition of their performances.

The stadium atmosphere turned celebratory, with students dancing and cheering to music, marking the end of an unforgettable two days of school athletics in Sekondi.

The 23rd Annual Schools and Colleges Athletics Tournament not only highlighted the competitive spirit of participating schools but also uncovered a new generation of athletic talent.

With performances like those seen from the athletes, the future of athletics in the region looks bright.
