Founder of the I Am Human Foundation, Shalimar Abbiusi, on Friday marked Ghana’s Farmers’ Day with a major humanitarian gesture, distributing more than 300 packs of food and drinks to marginalised residents of the Nima community in Accra.

The outreach, carried out with members of her team, brought together traders, market women and men, differently abled persons, and community members who expressed deep appreciation for the support.

Speaking during the donation, Abbiusi described the moment as a symbolic return to her organisation’s roots.

“The roots of the I Am Human Foundation are here in Ghana. This is where the vision was born—out of my own ordeal—and it was Ghana that inspired me to found I Am Human,” she said.

She added that although the Foundation has carried out impactful humanitarian projects across Africa, “including impactful work with the governments of Sierra Leone and Nigeria”, this was the first time she had been able to execute a project in the Ghanaian community that shaped her mission.

“Being here is truly a full-circle moment,” she noted.

During her interactions with traders in the bustling Nima market, Abbiusi listened as market men and women highlighted the challenges of food trading, particularly on a national holiday that also fell on a busy Friday market day.

The discussions touched on fluctuating prices, transportation costs, and the daily struggle to keep small businesses afloat.

The I Am Human Foundation team also made dedicated stops to visit differently abled residents within the community, offering meals while taking time to speak with them about their living conditions and needs.

Abbiusi said the Foundation would continue to expand its work across the continent while strengthening its impact in Ghana.

She reaffirmed her commitment to empowering underserved communities and promoting dignity, equity, and support for vulnerable groups.

The Farmers’ Day outreach, she added, is only the beginning of a renewed push to bring more humanitarian projects to Ghana.

“Giving back to the community that helped shape this mission is incredibly meaningful,” she said.

The gesture formed part of the Foundation’s broader mission to promote compassion, social inclusion, and community resilience across Africa.
