Team USA sprinter and Olympic gold medalist Sha’Carri Richardson has been arrested for speeding in Florida, where she’s accused of driving over 100mph, according to online records.

The Texas native was booked into Orange County Jail Thursday, where she later posted $500 bond and was released. The official charge is dangerous excessive speeding at 100 mph or more.

A department spokesperson told TMZ the 25-year-old Richardson was ‘dangerously tailgating and traveling across lanes of travel to pass other motorists.’

Florida has a six-month-old speeding law that makes it illegal to drive in excess of 50mph over the speed limit or to surpass 100mph.

A first conviction can result in up to 30 days in prison or a fine of $500, while a second offense results can be punished by up to 90 days behind bars and a $1,000 penalty.

This is not Richardson’s first run in with the law.

The 100m sprinter was detained at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in July after attacking her boyfriend, fellow Olympian Christian Coleman, in a moment caught on security footage.

She was ultimately booked on fourth-degree domestic violence charge and held in custody for more than 18 hours.

Security footage showed Richardson slamming Coleman up against a support column. An alternate angle appeared to show her throwing something, possibly headphones, at Coleman’s head.

At the time, Nike stood by Richardson and continued to carry her image at the top of their website. Later, she took to Instagram to apologize for the incident.

‘More than anything, definitely a lot of self reflection, a lot of understanding of not only putting myself in a compromising situation with somebody that I have a deep care and appreciation for as well, is something that — holding myself accountable,’ Richardson said in a social media video.

    Coleman opted against pressing charges.

Despite the controversy, Richardson was featured in a SKIMS ad shortly thereafter alongside the likes of Kim Kardashian and Serena Williams.

In 2021, Richardson was famously barred from the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for marijuana at the US trials in Oregon, where the drug happens to be legal. She said at the time she ate a THC gummy to deal with depression after the passing of her mother.

She completed a counseling program and accepted the one-month ban.

Richardson did win a gold medal running the anchor in the 4X100 relay at the Paris Games in 2024 and took silver in the 100m final.
