A vile sex predator who raped a woman acting as a ‘Good Samaritan’ by helping him drunkenly get out of a taxi has been jailed.

Craig Dorney, 35, of Duncombe Hill, Lewisham, was found by the victim in another taxi passed out in Lewisham.

The victim was on her way home after a night out with friends when she came into contact with Dorney drunkenly in the back of another taxi on June 29.

After helping him out the back of the cab, the woman splashed water on his face to wake him up and find out where he lived, offering to help get him home.

Dorney then managed to get her into an alleyway alone where he sexually assaulted and raped her.

She managed to get vital evidence of the terrifying sex attack by recording their conversation on her mobile phone. This, police say, helped convict Dorney.

Dorney, who speaks with a ‘southern Irish accent’, was tracked down and arrested him within 24 hours of the attack.

A court heard how the woman was forever changed by what had happened, Newsshopper reports.

In a heartbreaking victim impact statement, she said: ‘That night all I was trying to do was to help someone, now I don’t think I’ll ever get that back

‘I felt like my soul was broken. The intrinsic parts of what made me were snapped forever. There is such an overwhelming sense of not being the same again.’

However, she turned to the attacker, and added: ‘In almost ruining my own life, you’ve ruined your own. I hope no one I love has to go through the same pain I have been. A pain that will never heal.’

At his sentencing hearing it was said on his behalf that he now shows ‘genuine and heartfelt remorse’.

Dorney was charged with rape and two counts of sexual assault on Sunday, July 28.

He appeared at Woolwich Crown Court on December 2 and was found guilty on all three offences last week.

Detective Constable James Hart, who led the investigation for the Met Police said: ‘We hope this sentence brings some level of justice for the victim-survivor who bravely came forward and helped us catch her perpetrator in what must have been extremely distressing circumstances.

‘We’d like to thank the victim-survivor for providing vital evidence at the start of our investigation, as well as the other witnesses who provided statements.

‘Dorney is a sexual predator who targeted a vulnerable woman and I hope this case proves the Met is determined to tackle violence against women and girls, which has a significant and lasting impact on victim-survivors.’
