    Tragedy struck on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, in western Romania when a minibus carrying Greek football fans collided with a truck, leaving seven dead and three injured, local authorities reported.

    The vehicle, transporting 10 men from Greece to France, was involved in a head-on collision in Timis County, according to Romanian police.

    The driver, a 29-year-old man, reportedly veered into the opposite lane before colliding with the truck, officials said.

    Six of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while three others were taken to the hospital with injuries, Romanian emergency services confirmed.

    The passengers were supporters of PAOK Thessaloniki, travelling to attend an away match in France. Thessaloniki Mayor Stelios Angeloudis confirmed that the minibus was carrying fans to the Europa League game against Lyon, scheduled for Thursday, January 29, 2026.

    Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his sorrow on social media, saying he was “deeply shaken” by the news.

    He offered his “most sincere condolences to the victims’ loved ones and to the PAOK family,” highlighting the profound impact of the accident on the Greek community.
