A knife-wielding suspect and at least six others are injured following a police-involved shooting in New York.
The shooting happened after the unidentified man attacked several children with a meat cleaver in Bensonhurst, law enforcement sources told amNewYork.
It occurred at around 10:30am Sunday.
Footage from the chaotic crime scene, meanwhile, showed a female victim covered head-to-toe in blood.
Other clips show officers crowding in the vicinity of 17th Avenue and 84th Street, after at least one discharged their weapon at the suspect.
Insiders and witnesses both said EMS removed one adult and two children from the scene, with one of the young ones currently in critical condition at Maimonides Medical Center.
amNewYork initially reported the unnamed suspect succumbed to his wounds, before amending their report Sunday to state he was ‘seriously injured.’

‘I saw a guy come out on a stretcher,’ eyewitness Humberto Hureta told the station, as the New York Post produced images of the suspect.
He wasn’t moving, his shirt was all bloody and he was handcuffed to the stretcher. His eyes were rolling back in his head,’ Hureta recalled. ‘I never saw anything like it.’
Law enforcement sources further told The New York Post how the victims included several children who ranged in age from 8 to 16, with a photo it obtained seemingly showing one of the girls drenched in blood.
‘I was watching through the window and the girl covered in blood came out,’ a witness who asked to be identified only as Maria told the paper.. ‘And then there was another girl. The two girls were just covered in blood.
‘I was shaking. I’m still shaking now,’ she went on to add, as early reports suggested there had been a casualty.
‘I don’t usually see them,’ she added of the victims. ‘They just moved here. I lived here seven years and there are a lot of new people moving here.’
