Ghanaian entertainment pundit Nana Frimpong Ziega has called for a restructuring of the country’s creative arts administration, proposing that the sector be separated from tourism and placed under the Ministry of Sports.

Speaking in an interview on UTV on February 22, 2026, Ziega argued that the current structure does not allow creative arts to receive the needed attention.

“Why don’t we separate creative arts from tourism so that creative arts will be placed under the Ministry of Sports? We can have a Minister for Sports and Creative Arts, with two deputies, one in charge of creative arts and the other in charge of sports,” he suggested.

He likened his proposal to the structure of the Education Ministry, which previously had separate deputies overseeing tertiary education and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

“Just like we had the Ministry of Education with the two deputies, one in charge of the tertiary education and one in charge of TVET,” he said.

According to him, although tourism generates significant revenue, the creative arts sector does not receive adequate recognition under the combined ministry arrangement.

“Last year, the money that was fetched from tourism was a lot. But that money wasn’t taken directly to the ministry; it is because of the jobs it created, especially in hospitality. Whenever they speak about revenue, they separate tourism and make it seem like the money came from only tourism,” he stated.

Ziega further argued that creative arts significantly contribute to revenue generation, particularly through events and concerts held at major venues.

“Shows are not meant for only enclosed places. When stadiums are built around the world, they include stages because they know musical concerts will be held there. Stadiums are not meant for only football; they are meant to generate money,” he explained.

He maintained that since creative arts was added to tourism, the sector has been overshadowed.

“Since they added creative arts to tourism, the tourism money always swallows the creative arts, and they don’t pay attention to it. Creative arts should be added to sports. They should do proper deductions, and then they will be able to know that sports is fetching us money,” he added.
