Young Senegalese goalkeeper, Cheikh Touré was found dead in Ghana following an encounter with individuals believed to be fraudsters in Kumasi.

In a statement released by Senegal’s Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, it was disclosed that the goalkeeper had been invited to Ghana by the fraudsters under the pretense of securing a professional deal.

According to investigations by the Embassy of Senegal in Ghana, they were notified of the tragic incident on October 18, although the incident occurred on October 17, 2025.

“The Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad has learned, this Saturday, October 18, 2025, of the death of Cheikh Touré, which occurred in Kumasi (Republic of Ghana) on Friday, October 17, 2025. Initial investigations conducted by the consular services indicate that Touré, a young Senegalese footballer, may have fallen victim to a network of fraud and extortion.

“According to information gathered by the Embassy of Senegal in Accra, the body of the deceased has been placed at the Ebenezer Morgue in Tafo, in the Ashanti Region, located about 250 km from Accra,” portions of the statement translated from French to English read.

It was further indicated that representatives from the Embassy of Senegal will join the investigation team in Ghana to thoroughly probe the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“As part of this process, two officers from the Embassy will be sent to Kumasi on Sunday, October 19, 2025, to assist local authorities with administrative and legal procedures and to coordinate, in consultation with the family, the repatriation of the body to Senegal as soon as the necessary authorizations are obtained,” the statement added.
