Antoine Semenyo has opened up on his decision to represent Ghana national football team, describing it as an “easy” and emotional choice following interest from the West African nation in 2021.
The forward revealed that he never felt strongly considered within England’s national team setup, making Ghana’s approach a turning point in his international career. According to Semenyo, the opportunity to play senior international football with the Black Stars was one he could not pass up.
“I was never really in the England rankings like that anyway,” he said. “Ghana came calling in 2021, and I couldn’t turn down the chance to play for the first team. It was such an easy decision.”
Semenyo also highlighted the emotional significance of the switch for his family, noting their deep connection to Ghanaian football. He explained that his father and relatives were overwhelmingly supportive, celebrating his decision to commit to the four-time African champions.
“My dad was so happy, and everyone in my family—being Ghana supporters—was just thrilled. I can’t even describe it; it was crazy,” he added.
Since pledging his international future to Ghana, Semenyo has become an important figure in the squad, earning regular call-ups and contributing to the team’s attacking options.
