Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Blay Nyameke Armah Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Blay Nyameke Armah

Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Blay Nyameke Armah, has filed a defamation lawsuit in the High Court of Justice, Accra, against three defendants: Ignite Media Group, the Jospong Group of Companies, and Lawuratu Musah-Saka.

The lawsuit arises from allegedly defamatory remarks made on the popular television show Good Morning Ghana and subsequently shared across various social media platforms.

In a writ dated April 9, the plaintiff claims that the first defendant falsely accused him of possessing 3,000 kilograms of cocaine valued at $350 million and of being involved in multinational drug trafficking.

The remarks also implied that Armah’s son had been arrested in connection with the alleged illicit activities, and that Armah himself had fled to a neighboring country to evade arrest.

According to the writ, these allegations have severely damaged the plaintiff’s reputation as a lawyer, businessman, and parliamentary candidate. The claims have also caused him emotional distress and subjected him to public ridicule, as reported by citinewsroom.com.

Armah contends that the accusations were fabricated, baseless, and intended to portray him as the leader of a criminal organization.

In his suit, Armah seeks several legal remedies, including:

A declaration that the statements made by the first defendant were false, malicious, and defamatory.

A retraction and public apology by the defendants, issued with the same level of prominence as the original defamatory content.

A perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from publishing further defamatory statements.

General, aggravated, punitive, and compensatory damages totaling GH₵10,000,000.00.

Legal costs and any other relief the court deems appropriate.
