The Electoral Commission (EC) began proclaiming winners for the nine contested parliamentary constituencies on Saturday, December 21, 2024, following the Accra High Court’s required re-collection of results.

So far, the New Patriotic Party has claimed seven of the nine seats.

    1. Obuasi East Constituency, Ashanti Region

The incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Patrick Boakye-Yiadom, retained his seat. He won 18,558 votes, barely defeating Samuel Aboagye of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who received 18,539 votes. An independent candidate, Adjei Owusu Afriyie, received 424 votes. The Returning Officer, Frederick Mensah, made the announcement in Accra.

    2. Nsawam-Adoagyiri Constituency (Eastern Region)

Mr. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, has been proclaimed the winner after a re-collection exercise at the Greater Accra Regional Electoral Commission headquarters in Ridge. Mr. Annoh-Dompreh received 29,640 votes, with Fummey Philibert of the National Democratic Congress receiving 29,433 votes.

    3. Tema Central Constituency, Greater Accra Region.

Mr. Charles Forson of the NPP was winner, receiving 18,870 votes. Ebi Bright of the NDC, who was previously declared the winner, received 18,815 votes, while Fredrick Aniagyei, an independent candidate, received 229 votes.

    4. Ahafo Ano North Constituency, Ashanti Region

Nana Agyemang Prempeh of the NPP won the recount as well. He held the seat by 121 votes over his opponent. Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh of the NPP received 20,353 votes, while his single opponent, Kwasi Adusei of the NDC, received 20,232 votes.

    5. Okaikwei Central Constituency, Greater Accra Region

Mr. Patrick Yaw Boamah of the NPP was named the winner of the Okaikwei Central (Greater Accra Region) Constituency. According to the announcement, Mr. Boamah received 21,099 votes to keep his position in Parliament, defeating his single competitor, Abdulai Abu Baba Abubakar Sadiq of the NDC, who received 19,368 votes.

    6. Ahafo Ano South-West Constituency

Elvis Osei Dapaah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ahafo Ano South West, was proclaimed the winner of the election. Mr. Dapaah won with 16,058 votes over Abubakar Sadiq’s 15,372 votes.

    7. Techiman-South Constituency

Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the current NPP Member of Parliament for Techiman South, was proclaimed the winner of the parliamentary constituency election.

Mr. Korsah received 46,663 votes, defeating his nearest competitor Christopher Beyere, who received 43,429 votes. They were trailed by Donkor Moses (140 votes) and Boyoung Maris (76 votes).

Dome-Kwabenya has yet to be announced.

Note: The Ablekuma North exercise has been terminated.

    Background

A court ruling prompted the re-collection and declaration of results for nine disputed constituencies. The impacted constituencies include Nsawam-Adoagyiri (Eastern Region), Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, and Obuasi East (Ashanti Region), Dome-Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central (Greater Accra Region), and Techiman South (Bono East Region).

The Accra High Court directed the EC to complete the process and declare the victors in compliance with electoral regulations. Furthermore, the court ordered the Inspector-General of Police to guarantee adequate protection at the collation centres.

The drill, which is taking place in the EC’s Greater Accra Regional Office, is being held under strict police and military security.
