Photos of the final resting place of the late former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi, has surfaced online after his final funeral rites was held at Akyem-Wenchi in the Eastern Region.

The late MP was laid to rest in a well-furnished room with inscriptions of his initials, EK, giving the burial site a personal and intimate touch.

Kumi, who served as a first-time MP on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had in recent months been at the centre of a major legal and political controversy over the legitimacy of the Akwatia parliamentary seat.

His death occurred just weeks after the Supreme Court overturned his contempt conviction relating to the disputed 2024 election results.

Earlier, in February 2025, the Koforidua High Court had found him guilty after he defied an interim injunction preventing him from presenting himself for swearing-in as an MP.

The court later issued a bench warrant for his arrest, citing his failure to attend proceedings and his disregard for judicial orders.

The funeral drew widespread attention, with an emotional outpouring from family.

Notably, several members of the NPP, including sitting MPs, were present to pay their respects to the late MP.
