Head Coach of the Sudanese national team, James Kwasi Appiah, has been nominated for the Best Coach of the Year category in the 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards.

Appiah has had an impressive record since he took over the team, managing to help them achieve some incredible results, which have placed them in a comfortable position to qualify for the 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Ghanaian coach will be hoping to clinch the much-coveted award for the first time in his coaching career as he faces fierce competition from other coaches on the continent.

This GhanaWeb Sports feature highlights the records of Kwasi Appiah as the head coach of the Sudanese national team in 2024/b>

    Friendly matches

Sudan started 2024 with a 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau in a friendly in March 2024 before losing 2-1 to the same side in a second meeting a few days later.

    2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Kwasi Appiah steered his men to winning ways in June 2024 when they beat Mauritania 2-0 in an away encounter in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Falcons of Jediane proceeded with yet another victory in the World Cup qualifiers, beating South Sudan 3-0 in their second fixture.

In the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Sudan are leading Group B with ten points after four matches.

The group includes African giants like Senegal and DR Congo, yet Kwasi Appiah’s men are proving to be a tough side.

    2025 AFCON Qualifiers

Sudan started their AFCON qualifiers in Group F with a 1-0 win over Niger.

They lost by two goals to one to Angola in their second game of the 2024 AFCON qualifiers match.

The most recognizable moment that resonates among Ghanaians is when Sudan held the Black Stars to a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium and defeated them 2-0 at a neutral ground in Libya in October 2024.

After playing four matches in the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers, Sudan are in second position in Group F with seven points, needing a draw in their remaining two games to seal qualification.

In 2024, Appiah has managed 8 games, won 5, lost 2, and drawn one while scoring 10 goals and conceding 2 in the process.

The team has an excellent defensive record, having kept six clean sheets in eight games.

Kwasi Appiah has been in charge of the Falcons of Jediane for a year, following his appointment in September 2023.
