A 26-year-old Liberian national, Austin Tengeeh, has reportedly been lynched by a mob near Lashibi following an altercation that escalated into violence.
An account from a woman who is reported to be the girlfriend of Tengeeh suggests the incident began with a confrontation involving a security officer who accused the deceased of misconduct.
Three arrested for beating Liberian national to death in Sakumono
Recounting the events in a video shared on X on Monday, March 2, 2026, she said the situation quickly went out of control despite attempts to prevent a confrontation.
“I was right here, and Austin was standing right next to me. The security man was just here, with a cutlass shouting at Austin. I was just telling Austin to go upstairs because I don’t want them to fight. Austin said he didn’t do anything,” she narrated.
According to her, the security officer allegedly dragged Tengeeh down the stairs and assaulted him while ordering him to leave the premises after he had visited the compound to collect paper.
“The man grabbed Austin and brought him down [from the stairs] and hit him telling him to get out saying if you come to somebody’s compound harass their wife, I will beat you,” she said.
The lady explained that a painter at the scene attempted to restrain the security officer but was unsuccessful. She added that the woman who allegedly reported that she had been assaulted by the deceased also arrived at the scene, after which she apologised on behalf of Tengeeh while clarifying the claims.
“Another guy, a painter tried to intervene by holding the security man and preventing him from beating Austin but he failed. The lady that said she was assaulted also came and I asked her what happened which she explained. I apologized to her. The security man rushed at Austin again and started pushing and hitting him to leave the compound,” the lady said.
She further alleged that while Tengeeh was leaving the compound, the situation took a dangerous turn after the woman reportedly contacted her husband and handed the phone to the security officer.
The lady added that the security officer chased after Austin accusing him of being a thief while all the same chasing him with a cutlass.
“… I don’t know what they said in Twi and the security man started chasing Austin with a cutlass. The security man started shouting he was a thief and they jumped on him and began beating him,” she added.
She insisted Tengeeh was not a thief and had accompanied her for a legitimate purpose.
“He is not a thief. He only came to collect paper and I also came along with him. I had his laptop bag, his phone and everything. How can a thief be dressed like this? Can a thief have all these things? He’s not a thief,” she narrated.
The woman indicated that Tengeeh was severely injured from the assault and was later transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
“… He was weak after he was beaten so somebody said, take him to the hospital. I ordered a ride and then called the police immediately and they came. We went to the hospital but before we got there, Austin was dead. They beat him until he didn’t have strength to do anything again,” he said.
