English legend, Wayne Rooney has said he doesn’t hate his former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to Wayne Rooney, he loves Ronaldo but he believes Lionel Messi is the better player between the two.

In an interview with his former teammate Rio Ferdinand on the Rio Meets podcast, Rooney said fans should not mistake his opinion for hate, as he has great love for Ronaldo.

“People think I hate (Ronaldo). I love him. I think he’s a genius, and what he does is amazing. I think that just because I say Messi is better than Ronaldo, people think I don’t like Cristiano.”

“I love Messi. I love watching him play, because I think Messi was a little bit better in the way he played, in the way he faced the opponent, and so on. Ronaldo is a super player, and people think I don’t like him or talk bad about him just because I said Messi is better,” he said.

Rooney added that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the two greatest in football history but the Argentine is better than the Portuguese.

“Someone might prefer Messi or Ronaldo, but no, I don’t think you can argue about either one. I’m always asked this question, and I say: They are the two best players in history. In my opinion, they are the two best players to have ever played football.”
