The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has condemned racial abuse directed at Ghanaian attacker Christopher Antwi-Adjei during the DFB Pokal match between FC Lokomotive Leipzig and his club, Schalke 04.

In a statement shared on X on August 18, 2025, the GFA stressed that racial abuse is evil and should never be tolerated in football under any circumstances.

The association noted that it stands firmly behind the Black Stars player, who has always conducted himself as a professional footballer, and called on fans to show respect.

“Ghana and the entire football world watched in sadness as our brother, Christopher Antwi-Adjei, was subjected to racial abuse during Schalke 04’s German Cup tie against FC Lokomotive Leipzig. Racism is evil. It has no place in football. It has no place in society.

Christopher showed incredible strength in the face of hate, reminding us all that dignity and character will always rise above ignorance. As the Ghana Football Association, we stand firmly with him. We echo his courage, and we demand a game where every player is respected, no matter their color, race, or origin. Football is about unity. Football is about love. Football is for all of us. Let’s raise our voices together: No to racism. Yes to equality,” the statement read.

The incident occurred in the 13th minute when Antwi-Adjei went to the touchline to take a throw-in, and words were shouted that have no place on a football pitch or anywhere else.

After he raised the issue, the referee halted the match so the home club could make a stadium announcement. Instead, sections of the home crowd booed Antwi-Adjei with every touch until the final whistle.
