Abonten is more than a song, it is a statement

Savage 4 has officially released “Abonten”, a high-energy, culture-shifting record featuring Novelist and Smallgod.

The track marks the first release from the GHRIME Riddims series, part of the wider Grime Frequency project a body of work created over seven days in Accra during the festive period.

Produced by Novelist and executive produced by Smallgod, Abonten is more than a song, it is a statement. It represents the birth of Ghana Grime (GHRIME), a new sound blending the raw DNA of UK grime with Ghanaian street culture, language, and energy.

The title Abonten – meaning “outside” in Twi, is a slogan long associated with Smallgod and forms the heart of the record’s message.

The track celebrates freedom, movement, and the realities of youth who spend their lives outside: hustling, creating, surviving, and having fun on their own terms. It captures the spirit of the streets with unapologetic energy and urgency.

Notably, Abonten also marks a historic moment; it is the first time Smallgod has ever appeared vocally on a record, adding weight and symbolism to the release. His presence, alongside Novelist and Savage 4, bridges generations, cultures, and cities from Accra to London and back.

“This project was about creating something real, fast, and honest,” says Savage 4. “Abonten represents our reality and the freedom of being outside — no rules, no limits.”

Artiste bio

OG1 OF S4

Founder. Lyricist. Visionary. OG1 is the driving force behind the SAVAGE 4 collective and a central figure in the recent GH Grime explosion.

His journey started in high school, fueled by a singular inspiration: the rise of Stormzy and the power of the grime subculture.

Recognizing a void in the local scene, OG1 pioneered a sound that merged UK energy with Ghanaian grit. From the first schoolyard freestyles to leading the S4 charge on the global stage, he remains the “OG” who didn’t just join a wave—he built the ocean. 🇬🇭

Big Dave OF S4

Yo it’s Biggg Dave a member of Savage 4 Straight out of TEMA (Ghana) a place where Art is defined. I’m a UK-influenced Afro Grime artist blending raw street energy with African rhythm.

My sound is built on truth, hunger and lived experience and real-life stories wrapped in heavy militant flows.

I don’t just make music, I paint pictures from the foundation, from the grind, the setbacks, the wins and the vision. I might be short but lyrically taller.

I bring streetwear aesthetics and unfiltered reality into every project.

I’m here to build a legacy, not chase clout and bring out Afro Grime energy and stories with Real motion.

BadBoy K OF S4

1/4 of Ghana’s elite Grime-Drill Music Group, “SAVAGE 4”. Representing the pulse of “Tema,Ghana” and the suburbs of “Lagos, Nigeria” to everyone’s ears, *BADBOYK* is the high-performance motor & a razor-sharp lyrical engine that keeps the momentum moving forward.

As the founder of the group way back in high school, he’s mindset was deeply rooted in the realities of the Ghanaian streets, his sound is a relentless fusion of Afro-Grime & Drill and spiritual melodies(Captain hook). Alongside the SAVAGE 4 collective, BADBOYK has helped pioneer a new era of African Hip-Hop!

O’9 OF S4

Hailing from the gritty industrial landscapes of Tema, O’9 is a defining voice of Ghana’s new underground and a powerhouse member of the trailblazing collective, SAVAGE 4.

Emerging from the “trenches”—the raw, high-stakes environment of one of Africa’s most iconic port cities—O’9 brings an unmatched level of authenticity and street-hardened wisdom to his craft. He isn’t just making music; he is architecting a movement.

The Sound: GHRIME

O’9 stands at the forefront of GHRIME, a high-octane genre fusion that bridges the gap between the frantic energy of UK Grime and the rhythmic soul of Ghanaian life. By blending rapid-fire lyricism with heavy, distorted baselines and local dialects, O’9 has created a sonic identity that is both globally competitive and deeply rooted in the soil of Tema.

The Brand

As a key pillar of SAVAGE 4, O’9’s brand is built on:

Resilience: Turning the hardships of the trenches into lyrical gold.

Innovation: Refusing to follow trends, instead opting to build the GHRIME infrastructure from the ground up.

As the opening chapter of Grime Frequency, Abonten sets the tone for what is to come: a series of releases designed to define, document, and export GHRIME as a new genre and movement rooted in Ghana, but global in ambition.

“Abonten” is now available on all major streaming platforms.
